The Los Alamos project is located in the southeast part of the Santa Maria Basin just northwest from Santa Barbara and Los Angeles, California.  The Monterey Shale is the main producer in the Basin and discoveries to date have been exclusively oil.

Many of the discovered fields are shallow (less than 5000 feet) and were identified using surface geology.  Recent seismic has uncovered additional fields but many structures, some quite complex, remain.

Down dip well had reservoir with good oil shows and some live oil - updip location on 2D seismic

The Sun Blair 5 well was drilled on the Los Alamos permit in 1984 to test the Monterey in a sub thrust position below a shallow Monterey oil field.  The well intersected a thick section of Monterey with good oil shows and testing suggests the well is in an oil/water transition zone for the lower section.

Mapping on 2D seismic suggests there is a large updip area and an undrilled deep Pt Sal sandstone target.  Volumes are currently being calculated but the prospect is of significant size.

A deviated well would start on flat ground with easy off take access and drill along the subtrust as shown in the cross section below.  The well is prognosed to intercept the thick Monterey and Pt. Sal section 100s of feet updip from Sun Blair 5 and test the mapped closure.

If successful, AOC has the option to drill an additional well to earn further acreage and evaluate the rest of the structure.
