                                HOOD-FRANKLIN PROJECT

                                Basinal Geology

The Sacramento Basin forms the northern half of California’s Central Valley. It is an elongate, northwest-trending structural trough filled with more than 20,000 feet of Early Cretaceous (~145 to 100 million years old) and younger marine and nonmarine sedimentary rocks. The Sacramento Basin oil and gas province has produced more than 9 trillion cubic feet of natural gas but has so far yielded little oil.

Recently better seismic data including 3D has identified new conventional targets and deeper, more sporadic turbidite sands which are relatively unexplored

The Hood-Franklin Project area is surrounded by producing gas fields.  Most of these fields produce from the Cretaceous Winters Sandstone.  The Hood-Franklin project targets the slightly deeper Forbes Sandstone.  This sandstone produces widely in the north Sacramento basin but is only lightly drilled in this area.

The original Archer-Whitney F1 was drilled in 2006 as an updip Cretaceous Forbes Sand play to the gas shows in Wurster #2 some 2 miles to the southwest.  The well encountered 235 feet of gas shows in the anticipated updip position which were 10 times background.  High pressure and hole condition concerns forced the operator to abandon the well before wirelogs or testing could be done.

The sidetrack well was located below an existing gas field.
